In 1901 at the Spindletop oilfield, the Lucas geyser blew a stream of oil over 100 feet high and continued to blow until the well was capped nine days later. Because such a volume of oil had been discovered, using petroleum for mass consumption became far more possible. This gusher exploded the US into the oil age and revolutionized American transportation and industry.

As of 2024, around 653,000 men and women are employed by the Oilfield Services sector in positions like field engineers, machinists, welders, equipment technicians, logistics coordinators, safety inspectors, support functions, and much more.

Oilfield Service Companies (OFS) perform activities such as oil and gas extraction, construction, and manufacturing.

From 2021 to 2024, Women’s participation in the Energy service sector rose to 21% and ethnic diversity increased to 37%.

According to the Energy Workforce & Technology Council (EWTC), the top six states in the US for all energy-producing types are Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Colorado, New Mexico, and California. These states are home to over 495,000 jobs, which is almost 76% of jobs in the energy services sector.

Natural gas remains the largest source of US power, providing between 1500 and 2000 billion kilowatt-hours.
