Eyes Up. Phones Down. | Berkley Oil & Gas

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) most recent data in 2022, 3,308 people (9 people per day) lost their lives in crashes involving distracted drivers and nearly 290,000 people (795 people per day) were injured. Distracted driving takes lives. This April, as a part of Distracted Driving Awareness Month, we want our drivers to be safe and focused on the roads.
Eyes on the road! Hands on the wheel! Mind on your task!
To cut down on distractions while driving, here are some safety tips to keep yourself and others safe:
- Set your GPS, mirrors, or any other controls before you begin your trip. Don’t try to adjust on the road.
- Do not use your phone while driving. Nearly all states have laws against texting while driving, and many have laws against hand-held cell phone use. Put your phone on Do Not Disturb, use apps that block notifications, or put the phone out of your reach while behind the wheel. If you absolutely must send a text or email or return a call, pull over to a parking lot or safe place to do so.
- Utilize hands free technology or Bluetooth for any critical action you cannot pull over to perform.
- Avoid multitasking, eating, drinking, or other activities that take your hands away from the wheel or your eyes from the road. If you have passengers, ask them to help perform activities that may be distracting.
- Set an example for young drivers and give them training on driving distractions. Teens are one of the highest risk groups for distracted driving crashes.

EYES UP, PHONES DOWN. Remember: nothing on your phone is more important than your life or someone else’s.
